International Course on ECMO and EURO-ELSO Extracorporeal support in respiratory and circulatory failure
Regensburg, Germany, May 07 - 10, 2015
In intensive care medicine, ECMO (Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) refers to a technique to provide cardiac and respiratory oxygen assistance outside the body to patients who are so seriously ill that their lungs or heart can no longer function correctly. ECMO is most commonly used in neonatal intensive care for newborns with pulmonary distress, but it is also used to treat adults who, even with a ventilator, need further help getting the oxygen they need until they are able to breathe unassisted once more. The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), founded in 1989, brings together health care professionals and scientists committed to developing and assessing new therapies to support failing organ systems. A formal European branch of the organization was established in 2012, meeting at the annual Euro-ELSO event. We look forward to your participation, essential to the success of this exciting, growing event.
